From the dry Kalahari Sands
regions of Zimbabwe and Zambia, the Zimbabwean Teak (Baikiaea
plurijuga) tree provides a sustainable raw material custom-made
for the manufacture of outdoor decking and interior flooring.
Considered to be one of the hardest
(12850N@ 12% Moisture Content) and densest (800-1000kg/M3)
timbers, Zimbabwean Teak, with it’s characteristic
reddish brown heartwood and pale pinkish brown sapwood,
is an extremely stable timber providing a fine and even-grained
texture.
The mist-shrouded Eastern Highlands
of Zimbabwe is the source of our Zimbabwean Saligna
decking timber. Cut from slow-grown, mature stands,
this Eucalyptus species has a density and stability
seldom found in plantation-grown trees. Carefully cut,
kiln-dried and graded prior to machining, Underfoot’s
Zimbabwean Teak and Saligna decking is manufactured
by McDonald Timber Industries (Pvt) Ltd in Zimbabwe
and distributed by Underfoot Wooden Flooring (Pty) Ltd
in Southern Africa.

The new Stealth Decking
Fastener from Deck One delivers a flawless, no-nail
finish with superior strength, durability and safety
that is easy to install.
- Over 8 million clips have been installed.
- Stealth clips were developed and
used internationally in some of the world’s
harshest environments for wood.
- Developed in conjunction with the
timber industry experts and builders specifically
to prevent rotting and extend deck life.
- Smooth no nail finish; smooth natural
appearance; less puddles, stains and slime buildup.
- Safer (no popped nail injuries),
safer to play on, easy moisture cleanup, safe top-down
installation.
- Stronger fixings in shear, no plank
cuppings; hot dipped galvanized for added life; resists
movement; ventilation gaps help prevent joist rot.
- Saves you money; extending deck
life; quick installation, less upkeep, easy to refinish
and less maintenance.
Deckone Technical Info
Nails and screws hasten
the demise of any deck by promoting rotting in the joist.
With Deckone’s new no-nail finish clips fasten
into the side of each deck plank and securely hold it
down. Deckone precisely spaces the plank and elevates
it off the joist to promote ventilation therefore preventing
rotting.
There are no holes in
the plank or the joist where water can collect. All
the fixings are in shear, or in the side of the plank
and the side of the joist, thereby eliminating any place
where rotting can start.

There are three main products in the Hickson Décor
range of brush applied finishes that have been developed
for both softwood and hardwood, interior and exterior
applications.

Breather Paint
Hickson Décor
Hardwood Finish
All are high build, microporous, coat-on- coat products
– complete finishes from a single can. They eliminate
the need for a separate primer or undercoat, although
they are fully compatible with Hickson Predec basecoats
and primer, if required.
Each product in the
range has a high solids content compared with alternative
wood finishes, which not only provides a superior spreading
capacity but also gives a greater film thickness and
increased durability of the coating.
Moisture and ultra-violet
light are the primary agents that can dramatically shorten
the life of decorative coatings for timber and subsequently
cause high maintenance costs. They can cause deterioration
of the substrate leading to blistering, cracking, peeling
and flaking of the decorative finish.
The Hickson range of
microporous wood finishes has been specially formulate
to overcome these problems and has been increasingly
specified by architects and used by private contractors,
local authorities and housing associations since its
introduction into S.A. in 1993. The finishes have a
highly flexible structure that compensates for movement
of the wood. Their microporous formulation allows the
timber to breath and any excess moisture to escape as
a vapour through the coating, whilst the exterior surface
remains highly water repellant.
